Patience is the key for Quins' Lindsay-Hague

Harlequins wing Ollie Lindsay-Hague will have to be patient again this year despite impressing during pre-season.

The 21-year-old spent much of last season on loan at Championship outfit Esher having cut his teeth at Rosslyn Park the season befiore.

Lindsay-Hague, who scored one try in two LV= Cup appearances last season, was a try scorer in Quins’ opening pre-season friendly in Castres and much is expected from him by academy head coach Howard Graham.

With Quins going into the new season as defending champions, this could be the year the youngster, one of the brightest stars at the club, finally makes his mark.

Conor O’Shea’s men got their title defence off to a shakey start, as a stunning late fightback saw them defeat Wasps in their Premiership opener at Twickenham last weekend.

O’Shea has spoken of his admiration for Lindsay-Hague and insists he will be given time to make a name for himself.

He said: “We will be loaning the likes of Ollie out to other clubs but they know they are going to have a part to play.

“Everyone develops at different paces and Ollie is no different.

“You have to remember these players have been around the club for a long time but are still very young.

“He’ll be looking to improve and we need to make sure they are doing the right things before they are exposed to the Premiership.

“There is big competition for places in the back three, though, when you think of Tom Williams, Sam Smith, Ugo Monye, Ross Chisholm and Mike Brown.

“So it is going to be tough.”

The defending Premiership champions were 40-13 down early in the second half  in the opening day clash against Wasps, but rallied to win 42-40.

Fly-half Nick Evans marked his 100th appearance for the club with a superb display, kicking three penalties and four conversions while also scoring a try to seal the comeback victory.

Mike Brown (two), Tom Guest and Tom Williams also touched down.

Quins are next in action tonight when they host London Welsh at 7.45pm.

Meanwhile, Ross Chisholm has signed a two-year extension to his contract at Quins, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2015.
