Harlequins’ Robbie Nairn has high hopes for the rest of 2016 and he is hoping his most prolific season yet will begin with success at the Singha Premiership Rugby 7s Series Final this Sunday.

Howard Graham’s Quins side booked their place at the Ricoh Arena showpiece – where they will take on hosts Wasps in a juicy quarter-final clash – by topping Group C with three wins from three in their group.

The south-west London outfit scored an impressive 16 tries and are clearly bursting at the seams with talent with wing Nairn also boasting international honours.

Nairn impressed for Scotland at the recent U20 World Championship, and has plenty of sevens experience under his belt too having run out for his country in the World Series’ Dubai and Cape Town legs.

He is desperate to kick off the coming season in the best way possible on Sunday by lifting the Singha 7s trophy.

“The Sevens is all about individual skills and although there is more space and in a way you have more time, you are under so much pressure because of that space and time,” said Nairn.

“I want to be pushing back into the Scotland U20s this year and pushing into other teams, getting back involved in the Aviva A League and then trying to kick on.

“I am happy to be involved and build up my experience.

“Some of the boys are out in San Francisco at the moment and I’m sure that will benefit the club, but it helps to get some silverware because it develops that winning mentality.”

Nairn got on the scoresheet in Harlequins’ final Group C clash against Saracens at Franklin’s Gardens, putting the gloss on the 42-17 victory that confirmed their place as group winners.

And with an even bigger crowd expected in Coventry on Sunday, Nairn is relishing the thought of performing on the big stage once again.

He added: “It is brilliant to pull on the Quins’ jersey this early in pre-season, it’s obviously exciting any time but for me it is especially exciting to be in front of a big crowd.

“We are going to go out and do our best to win, we wouldn’t be there if we didn’t think we could do it, but there are some really experienced sides and we know we need to perform.

“I think we have a good chance of going out and doing the business.

“We have a few things to work on, we just need to make sure our systems are tight and that there is no space for the other teams to exploit.

“We are going to go out all guns blazing, but we need to do our homework and make sure we’re all working together.”
