Props are not typically known for their ball skills, but Quins prop is Adam Jones is happy to be an old dog learning a few new tricks.

The 34-year-old has started all of his new club’s Premiership matches so far this season, since calling time on life in the Principality in the summer with a move to west London.

Jones, capped 95 times by Wales, was ejected from head coach Warren Gatland’s World Cup considerations when he was left out of his Six Nations squad earlier this year.

Quins director of rugby Conor O’Shea signed the former Cardiff Blues man in the summer to play and to school the club’s young props Matt Shields, Will Collier, Kyle Sinckler and Owen Evans.

Wales’ loss will definitely been Quins’ gain up front and Jones, who played the majority of his career with the Ospreys, believes he has adjusted to life at the Stoop in more ways than one.

“It has been a long pre-season, but it has freshened things up after being in Wales for 15 years,” he said.

“That is a long time, especially at one club for most of it. It is good to see a different environment and a different bunch of boys it has been good.

“I’ve played against Quins before and they are a tough team to play against. It is a bit more direct in Wales, but not as many off-loads.

“Not that people will have seen it much, but I am comfortable with the ball in hand. The passing game here has been good fun and it is enjoyable.”

Quins made history on Saturday as they scored more points than they have managed before at the Rec in beating Bath 38-28.

Nick Evans kicked 28 points in all as second half tries from Danny Care and Dave Ward took O’Shea’s men to a second victory of the season.

Quins, fourth in the table, host Sale Sharks tonight.
