"Honoured" Exile Davies gets the call from the Barbarians
London Welsh's Alex Davies says he is “honoured” to be named in the Barbarians squad for next week’s fixture with Combined Services.
The scrum half will make his Barbarians debut on November 12 at Brickfields, where he spent three seasons before joining the Exiles in 2011.
“There’s a lot of history in the jersey and it will be a great occasion to play against the Combined Services,” said Davies, who kicked 16 points last weekend to help the Exiles to victory at Leeds Carnegie.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for the armed servies and Gareth Evans was at Welsh last year and he’s a good friend of mine. He’ll be playing for them and I know what he’s been through with the Marines.
“I spoke to Ian Davies when we played the Pirates at the Kassam and he gave me a little heads up, and then Justin got an email through on Thursday.
"He asked if I’d like to play for them and I obviously jumped at the chance – it’s a massive honour."
He added: “To be playing back down at Brickfields will make it all the better.
"My girlfriend’s family still live down there so they’ll all be coming to watch and it will be good to see a few old friends from Plymouth, who are actually playing in the Babaas team as well. It will be nice to play with them again.”
