Former Scottish rugby international Phil Godman has only played once for London Scottish, but he has already bought into the club’s vision for the future.

The fly half was the stand out player in the Exiles’ 26-10 pre-season win at Cardiff and he is expected to start against Harlequins on Saturday at the Twickenham Stoop.

Godman, with 23 international appearances and 71 points to his name, has spent the past eight years with Edinburgh of the RaboDirect Pro12.

The 30-year-old was attracted to the Exiles because of its Scottish history and, after speaking to Simon Amor, the desire of the club to move forward.

Godman said: “Simon’s got a great vision for the club built on a mixture of youth and experience. There are a lot of good young players here and I hope to help them on the pitch as well as off it, it is an exciting time.

“And with the club’s Scottish heritage, I am really glad I made the choice to come down.”

Godman was also attracted by the team spirit.

“Everyone is working well together in the pre-season. There are things to work on but there is really good energy and enthusiasm.

“I’m looking forward to playing Harlequins this weekend, it will be a step up but it is what we need.”

Head coach Amor said: “Phil is such a highly experienced player he will be excellent for this club. He is also an exciting person to have around.”

Amor has also brought in centres PJ Gidlow from Doncaster Knights and Andy Reay from Moseley, as well as lock Tyler Hotson from Plymouth Albion.

“The recruitment was focused on bringing in some more experience, as well as some physicality,” he added.

“PJ in particular will bring a real physicality and real ‘go forward’ attitude to our midfield.”
