London Scottish skipper Mark Bright is proving age is no barrier at the Athletic Ground and is out to prove his point by securing safe passage to the British & Irish Cup last eight.

Scottish are level on points with Pontypridd at the top of the Pool Two table and know victory at Edinburgh Accies tomorrow and at home to London Welsh a week later should be enough to secure a quarter-final place for the first time.

The exiles crashed 21-13 at Bedford Blues on New Year’s Day to put the skids under their Championship promotion surge.

And despite a comfortable 55-19 home win against Accies back in October, Bright knows a swift return to winning ways is not a given.

He said: “It will be a different game up in Edinburgh and with the expected tricky conditions we will have to adapt our game.

“Our accuracy let us down against Bedford Blues on New Year’s Day and that’s something we are aware of.

“The boys want to put things right by qualifying for the quarter-finals and we are certainly not taking the two cup games lightly.

“Accies played some decent rugby in the first game and from what I’m told they have strengthened their squad.

“We will have to play well to win and know anything other than victory could cost us.”

Bright has been one of Scottish’s most consistent performers this season – helping himself to 11 tries in all competitions – and the 35-year-old reckons he is performing as well as ever.

He added: “I wish I was six years younger, but the body is holding up well and I’m happy with the way I’m playing.

“I’m really enjoying my rugby and still feel I’ve got plenty to offer.

“The tries are a bonus, but most of the time I’m hanging off the back of mauls and all I need to do is fall over the line.”
