Esher Oliver Mines will miss the first three months of next season a week after agreeing a new deal to remain at Molesey Road next term.

The 25-year-old was suspended for 13 weeks by an RFU disciplinary hearing on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a charge of punching an opponent during a 32-17 National Division One win over Richmond on April 26.

Mines, who was cited by Richmond, was suspended from August 18 until November 16 and is free to play again on November 17.

Meanwhile, ex-Esher man Rob Kirby broke Molesey Road hearts as his extra-time try secured a 22-17 quarter final win for Richmond in the Rugby Rocks Sevens at the Athletic Ground on Saturday.

And sevens coach Chris Kibble admitted it was an opportunity lost.

“We’re all gutted, there’s absolutely no doubt about that,” he said.

“We put a lot of pressure on ourselves coming into the tournament and there was talk all week of doing ourselves justice and putting together a run of games.

“That being said, I couldn’t be prouder of the quality and desire we’ve shown.

“We looked at home at this level and I believe if we had beaten Richmond, there was every chance we’d have gone on and done the job.”
