Esher assistant coach Ricky Nebbett has warned his players to cut out their sloppiness if they want to stay in touch at the top of National Division One, writes Pippa Field.

Esher, currently second in the table, were made to work hard for their 25-19 away-day victory against fourth bottom Worthing Raiders on Saturday.

Despite an Andy Wright try and a penalty and conversion from the boot of Luke Daniels, they trailed 12-10 at the break, before second-half tries from Ashley Smith, David Millard and Wright, again, confirmed the win.

And while pleased with his side’s gritty determination, Nebbett knows they must tighten up.

“I knew it was always going to be a tough game against Worthing, I know the way they play and we had to work really hard for the win,” he said.

“But there were some little errors we have spoken about now for the last two or three weeks.

“It’s the 50-50 passes that don’t need to be made.

“The fact they are trying these things shows they are  trying to push the boundaries, which is good.

“They also need to know they can’t score off every move. We have to consolidate and build.

“We have a tough run of fixtures coming up in November and these self-inflicted errors are going to cost us if we are not careful.”

Esher, unbeaten at home this season but without prop Ollie Mines this week due to a dislocated elbow, return to Molesey Road on Saturday for the visit of sixth-placed Fylde.
