There was a time when Harlequins centre George Lowe thought he might have to quit the game - but the club and its fans got him through.

The 26-year-old, who signed a contract extension with the club this week, was sidelined for 13 months with a neck injury some thought would end his career.

But he has bounced back since that fateful blow against Saracens in September 2013 to find the form that saw him among the most feared Premiership centres when Quins lifted the title in 2012.

The former Epsom College student, capped at England U20 and Saxons level, has made 128 appearances and scored 27 tries for Quins since his debut against Wasps in 2009.

And Lowe, who runs a small scale property development business in his spare time, is keen to add a few more points and trophies to his tally.

"I am really pleased to have committed my future to Harlequins, my decision to stay was a quick and easy one," he said.

"The club and its supporters really helped me during my long-term injury and it's something I'm truly grateful for.

"I want to repay the faith and support they gave me by helping this Cclub push for more silverware both domestically and in Europe.

"The squad we have is hugely exciting and I'm looking forward to being a part of it for the next few years.”

Lowe was tipped to make the step up to senior England level prior to his spell on the sidelines.

And Quins director of rugby Conor O'Shea believes his clubmates have a duty to help him get there.

"George is the epitome of what you understand a team player to be," he added.

"Injury cost him on his rise to the top, but the way he is playing now, and at the age of 26, George should - in no way, shape or form - limit his ambition.

"The wider group owe him and if the group delivers, George will get the recognition he deserves. This is a great re-signing for the club.”
