London Cornish director of rugby Dickon Moon reckons his side may be the underdogs, but they more than deserve their place in the London Two South play-off.

Saturday’s clash at Medway will be the exiles’ biggest game in their 53-year history – with a debut place in London One South up for grabs.

The exiles had already secured their play-off spot before last weekend’s 41-17 win at Weybridge Vandals, where Rich Skinnard (two), Harry Somers, Robin Heymann, Will Carew-Gibbs and Tim Homan bagged the tries, and Josh Allison kicked the extras.

The victory sealed a run-in of 10 games with just a single defeat, at champions Tottonians, while Medway ended their final 10 games with eight wins, and a draw and defeat to London Two South East champions Maidstone.

However, Medway are unbeaten on home soil leaving Moon in doubt over the task that lays ahead.

He said: “Medway are the home side, and had a better playing record than us in the respective leagues.

"But we wouldn’t be here if we couldn’t play, and I hope we can display the same relentless tenacity that has characterised our league season.

“It’s going to be a great occasion for both clubs, neither of which has played at the higher level, and I am sure Medway will be great hosts too."

Victory this weekend would not only open the doors to the top London league, it would also elevate London Cornish to among the best sides in Cornwall.

Moon said: “With players from Penzance to Saltash in our ranks, we are truly a Cornish side with a Cornish coaching team in Tom Sincock, Marc Sweeney and myself.

“If we could win we would become one of the county’s top five ranked clubs, which would be some achievement given 13 years ago we were the lowest of the lot.”
