Can life get any better for Danny Care?

The 27-year-old Harlequins scrum half capped a whirlwind 12 days by being named in head coach Stuart Lancaster’s squad for the forthcoming QBE autumn international series on Wednesday.

Less than a fortnight earlier he was missing his side’s 22-16 Premiership defeat at Leicester Tigers as he became a father for the first time after girlfriend Jodie gave birth to son Blake.

A week later he celebrated by scoring the the decisive try that helped give director of rugby Conor O’Shea’s men a 25-9 European Rugby Champions Cup triumph over Castres last Friday.

Care will meet up with the England squad at Pennyhill Park on Sunday where he will be joined by Quins team-mates Marland Yarde, Mike Brown, Joe Marler and Chris Robshaw – hopefully celebrating another win over Wasps, who they take on at Adams Park earlier in the day.

Robshaw’s leadership of the England team has been called into question since stepping down from his role as captain at Quins.

But Lancatser has stood by his man.

“Chris continues to lead from the front,” he said when unveiling his squad.

“With other players now stepping up into captaincy and senior roles at their clubs, we are building a team of leaders who can take England forward.”
