Esher boss warns his stars to buck up their ideas
Schmid, who masterminded the Es’ rise to the Championship during a long spell in charge, was left dismayed after watching coach Ricky Nebbett’s men slump to a third straight National Division One defeat on Saturday.
Defeats to Old Albanians and then Wharfedale last week had left Esher desperate to get back up to pace with the league’s top teams when they travelled to third bottom Blackheath at the weekend.
But they were outscored by six tries to two to crash 38-10, with a try in each half from Jack Cooke and Neil Sweeney proving little consolation after slipping 26-0 behind inside the first quarter.
And Schmid warned the current crop of Esher stars to buck their ideas up – no excuse.
“We were pretty pleased with things up until the last three weeks,” he said.
“They have had some injuries, but that is no excuse.
“The guys that have come in have to know they are taking care of the shirt. They haven’t and they have massively underperformed.
“The manner of Old Albanians defeat and this one was particularly hard to take and we got what we deserved in both games.
“The pressure is off us a little bit now. We are all working towards the same things and the guys have to start putting in the performances.”
