Boxer Lenny Daws may be suffering his own heartbreak after a controversial disqualification during his European title bout last weekend, but he believes someone who does not need to worry about defeat is Charlie Edwards.

However, the 36-year-old has a warning for the former Earlsfield ABC man Edwards, who defended his English flyweight title in only his sixth pro fight last month.

Edwards’ ultimate aim is a shot at a world title, something that is not out of the 22-year-old’s range, according to the experienced Daws.

“In the smaller weights you can be fast-tracked because there are not many of them about that size,” he said.

“Charlie has the ability to go all the way, but he has to careful in his early title fights because he is a bit of a name and people will be thinking ‘If I can beat him, that could be me’.

“But he definitely has the talent, so it is all down to him.”

He added: “He has a good crowd around him.

“People think that boxing is all down to what you do in the gym, and is true to some extant, but it’s also what you do outside the gym, and he is doing it the right way.”
