Danny “Cassius” Connor delivered a perfect knockout present for fans at the Westcroft Leisure Centre on Saturday night.

The Carshalton born boxer, completed his 2015 campaign with a clinical first round knockout victory over Bulgaria’s Radoslav Mitev.

The Bulgarian failed to beat the count after Connor, the former British super-lightweight champion, cleanly caught him on the edge of the chin and the bout was all over after just one minute 58 seconds.

It was Connor’s first KO in his 25-fight career and advances to 14 wins, and three on the bounce.

“Mitev fought a few prospects and good guys and no one has got him out that quick which is nice,” said the 29-year-old.

“My power is coming on a bit more, I’m sitting on my shots a bit more and working on other stuff in the gym.

“I feel like I’m progressing all the time and the losses I’ve had has only enhanced me and pushed me along and made me a harder man to beat.”

Connor now hopes to fight the winner of the Commonwealth title clash between Tommy Martin and John Wayne Hibbert at Copper Box Arena, Hackney Wick.

“I want to fight the winner of Hibbert and Tommy Martin, but if not I’ll go back down to lightweight as Johnny Coyle is also looking for that belt,” he added.

“There’s a big long list for them and most of them who want to fight for them are fellas from our gym.

“Whatever comes my way really I’m not too fussed, but I want to start pushing for belts now.”

And Connor was mobbed by his army of fans just after leaving ringside.

It was the first time he has fought at the Carshalton venue as a professional and hopes promoter Mick Hennessy can do another bill at Westcroft Leisure Centre.

Connor added: “It’s good round here. I like a few more tickets next time if I could get them, but it will be wicked to fight here again, it’s only five minutes away from my house.

“It was nice to get the support and everyone turning out, nice to hear the voices in the crowd and obviously afterwards everyone coming up to me, it was nice.”

And Connor, who is trained by Alec Wilkey, is looking forward to having a big year in 2016.

“It was nice early Christmas present for me,” he added.

“I’ve never knocked anyone out but it was second stoppage in three fights. I had Ricky Boylan a few times when I fought him.

“I think as long as I listen to what I’ve been told and sit on my shots a bit more and work on what I am doing then I think I can go a lot further than the level I am at now.

“Hopefully 2016 will be big for me.”
