Boxer Lenny Daws is coming home this weekend and he ready to give his fans a night to remember when he does battle for the European super lightweight title.

Daws takes on Ruben Nieto [16-1-0] from Spain on Saturday at the Westcroft Leisure Centre in Carshalton on Saturday night.

The 36-year-old, who was born in Carshalton and who now lives in Morden, has never had a pro fight in his own back yard, having fought as far-afield as Italy.

But now he is expecting his fans to blow the roof off the Westcroft Leisure Centre and cheer him onto a victory over this 32-year-old opponent.

Daws said: “It’s a 900 seater venue, and I’ve sold about 500 of the tickets so far, so it will be full of the Morden massive or the Carshalton lot.

“I sold the tickets within the first couple of weeks because people were panicking. There is going to be some noise in there come Saturday night and the roof is going to come off.”

“I’ve not had that for a long time, I have been on the road for a while up in Manchester or Italy.

“It means I have not had the fan base behind me for a while, and it does play a big part in it in the later part of the fight when you hear them all cheering your name, it does drive you on, so I am really looking forward to that.”

He added: “I told my manager Mick [Hennessey] it would be a sell-out if we had the fight at Westcroft.”
