Tony Chaplin produced the performance of his life on Saturday night in Epsom to halt Cathal Geraghty and secure his shot at the Queensbury Boxing League light middleweight national title.

Carshalton’s undefeated star looked punch perfect throughout the contest as he systematically broke down the tough Irishman, forcing Geraghty’s corner to throw in the towel midway through the third round.

The win extended Chaplin’s unbeaten record to eight wins in the competition, and further enhanced his reputation as one of the brightest stars in the competition.

Talking after the biggest win of his life Chaplin said: “ I knew he was going to be tough and he proved that in the ring tonight.

“It was a hard fight and coming out for the second and third rounds I knew it was not going to be easy, but I picked my shots and produced the best performance of my life.

"Now that I’ve got past Geraghty I feel I deserve that title shot, and I can’t wait to challenge for the belt next time out."

Also emerging with a win after his return to action after 18 months on the sidelines, Mitcham light middleweight Lee Cannon stopped Birmingham veteran Andy Cosnett in the second round of their clash.

The beginning of the end came early in the second when a chopping right hand clipped Cosnett on the temple sending him straight to the canvas, but no sooner had he regained his feet a powerful right hand sent him back to the floor forcing the referee to call time on the contest.

Both Chaplin and Cannon will look to continue their winning streak when they return on November 28 at the Queensbury Boxing League’s end of season finale in West Sussex.
