Fighting fisherman Warren Fenn faces a sink-or-swim title fight this month, writes Matthew Bozeat.

The 27-year-old from Mitcham challenges Nicky Jenman for the British Masters Bronze light-middleweight title on manager Mickey Helliet's show at the Camden Centre on Saturday, April 18.

For Fenn, it's a big step up in his first fight over the eight-round distance.

During his amateur career, Jenman boxed both James DeGale and Chris Eubank jr and in his last fight, the 28 year-old from Brighton handed Carl Dickens his first defeat.

“He's a good fighter, but at this stage of my career I have to step up and go for titles,” said Fenn.

“I’m looking to prove myself in hard fights. I'm either going to sink or swim.

“I’m looking at this fight as a stepping stone. If I win this fight, I won’t be far away from a shot at the Southern Area title.

“I’m ready to take the next step in my career. Everyone in the gym tells me I have the skills, so it's down to me to step up and grab the bull by the horns.”

And after winning the belt, he will turn his attentions to capturing Nina – the carp he's been chasing since the start of the year.

He said: “It takes a lot of work to catch a carp like Nina.

“You have to set the right trap in the right area at the right time. It’s a very tactical game. I will step up my attempts to catch Nina after the fight.”
