Surbiton hotshot Alan Forsyth says there is more to the men’s first team than his lethal goal partnership with former Great Britain international Matt Daly.

Forsyth struck a hat-trick as head coach Todd Williams’ men beat Brooklands Manchester University 6-3 on the final day of the MHL Premier Division regular season on Sunday.

The triple took Forsyth’s league haul to 18 meaning he and Daly – who has netted 25 times – are responsible for 61 per cent of their team’s top flight tally this term.

But the 78-time capped Scotland international believes if it was not him or Daly putting the ball in the net then someone else would be more than capable of filling the void.

“It has been a good partnership and we have worked well together,” he said.

“He is a penalty corner specialist and I just get in the right place to put the ball in.

“There are enough goalscorers in the team without us. We are just the lucky ones to put the ball in.

“If we are not there, there would be other people scoring.

“We are just in the right place at the right time.”

Sunday’s win was not enough for Surbiton to claim top spot in the league as East Grinstead’s 4-1 win over Reading pipped them on goal difference.

Surbiton will face old foes Wimbledon in the championship play-offs on April 11, but before then they head to Cannock in the Mens’ Cup semi-finals on Sunday as they bid to set-up a shot at a league and cup double.

“It was a strange feeling to come off the pitch having won but knowing we would not finish top,” he added.

“We could have scored more goals at the weekend and there were games where we did not score as many as we should have.

“The main thing now is the play-offs and taking our opportunities then.”
