Wimbledon men's coach Ben Marsden hailed his hockey heroes after their 4-1 win at Brooklands Manchester University last weekend.

Goals from Ali Brogdon (two), Johnny Kinder and Steven Ebbers secured victory in Wimbledon's first Premier Division match since the winter break.

The victory keeps them in fourth place, five points off leader East Grinstead.

Marsden said: "We're very pleased with the win. It was the first game back and some players have been playing indoors so we never know where we stand.

"We had to catch the train up there so that meant things had to run smoothly. "Our keeper had a good game, but we dealt with them well."

Aussie sensation Blake Govers made his debut after joining Wimbledon from the Sydney Premier League last week, and Marsden saluted his efforts.

"We wanted Blake to watch a bit on the side. He came on and had a positive impact," said Marsden.

"He got sent off twice, which wasn't ideal. In the Sydney league he is used to things being a little more aggressive.

"We will start to see more of Brett and he is a great guy among the group."

Wimbledon's next game is against bottom club Canterbury, but Marsden is guarding against complacency.

"Canterbury took six points off us last season and they have recruited well. We will respect them," he said.
