If ever a fan needed to be reminded never to leave a match until the final whistle, then Surbiton’s club day at Sugden Road on Saturday will have done the job.

Jo Hunter fired home a penalty corner with seven minutes remaining as the club’s unbeaten ladies beat Leicester 2-1 in the WHL Premier Division to remain top of the table from Clifton.

But there was heartache for the men as they battled back from 2-0 against MHL Premier Division leaders East Grinstead, to lead 3-2 – through a Mattt Daly double and one from Alan Forsyth – only to conede an equaliser with 41 seconds left on the clock.

The result means Surbiton trail East Grinstead in the table by a point, but crucially head coach Todd Williams’men have a game in hand on their rivals.

Keeper David Kettle and Forsyth combined to be the heroes on Sunday as Surbiton's men edged past Beeston to set up a Men's Cup semi-final trip to Cannock on March 22.

Forsyth struck twice to haul Surbiton back from 2-0 down to force a penalty shoout-out in which Kettle saved the crucial fourth stroke to allow Forsyth to make the decisive score.
