After a slow start to this season’s Winter Banger League at Plough Lane, Reece Priestly surged up the table in round six of the competition, with a rare hat-trick of wins.

A consistent performer throughout the year at Aldershot and Arlington raceways, Priestly is now beginning to regularly show his talent and experience on his home track of Wimbledon.

On a difficult night in round five he managed a solid set of results, including a win in the night’s final, that left him 39 points behind the leader Rob Barnes.

Preparing for the upcoming World Final for the domestic bangers, Barnes, satisfied that he had a comfortable lead, decided to opt out of the latest championship round.

In hindsight that was a mistake, as Priestly capitalised in his absence securing the maximum 32 points on the night, including double points for another final win.

Fortune favoured Priestly as he inherited his two wins in the heats, through his rivals having breached tyre regulations.

In heat one, he had got up to third by the seventh lap, and made up ground on the leader Keiron Fry hand over fist.

By the chequered flag, he had just run out of laps coming home a close second, only then to be awarded the win after Fry’s disqualification.

Incredibly, Priestly benefitted again in the second heat by another driver flouting the depth of tread on his tyre.

This time it was Leatherhead’s Steven Penfold that was lightning quick and coasted to what he thought was a win.

With Penfold’s resulting disqualification, Priestly found himself once again elevated to first position, with eight more points for his total.

By comparison, the final for Priestly was a straight forward affair. In an already depleted field, he bided his time while other drivers took each other out of contention.

Seizing the lead early on, he maintained his composure to complete an unlikely trio of wins. Closing right up on the league leader, he is just a mere seven points behind.

With home track advantage, Priestly has become a hot favourite for this year’s title.

This Sunday at Plough Lane, Spedeworth host their ever popular annual Micro Madness night for the National Bangers.

With the emphasis on fun rather than winning, a full booking list of 150 cars is sure to provide plenty of entertainment for those in the stands.

Racing starts at 5.30pm with turnstiles open at 4.30pm.
