Helen Dean, who is running this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the LifeTrain Trust, has vowed to match all sponsorship with a personal donation to Pitstop Wanderers, writes Sam Perkins.

With support from the Michael Varah Memorial Fund and Leatherhead charity the Pistop, Helen has created the project which motivates homeless men to get involved with football and build their fitness.

Helen (pictured) hopes to raise £1,000 in sponsorship for the LifeTrain trust and says her equivalent contribution to the club would help to secure their future.

She said: “The money will be used to put towards the tournament (which has no funding at the moment) including paying for medals etc.

The rest will be used to cover the additional shirts that we need, a First Aid kit (which we desperately need) and anything else to keep the football going.”

“I am really hoping that we will get a team in the 5-a-side Leatherhead Leisure Centre league, and that will cost quite a lot and will be ongoing.”

Steve Edwards, the football development officer at the Surrey County FA has assisted Helen in starting the club, and the team is coached by Peter Augustine.
