Craig Tanner named new Tooting & Mitcham manager
Tooting & Mitcham have announced Craig Tanner as their new manager.
Tanner came through the youth ranks at the Terrors before moving on to play for Sutton United, Hampton & Richmond, Carshalton Athletic and Metropolitan Police - where a knee injury ended his player career.
Tooting will be his first job in management as he is looking forward to the challenge at the Ryman Division One South team.
"I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to manage Tooting & Mitcham," he said.
"Those who know me knew how difficult a decision it was to take a break from football due to injury but I was determined to get back involved as soon as I could, but I wouldn't have expected this in my wildest dreams.
"I have a massive soft spot for the club as it is where I started my journey in non-League football, having youth team success, making my senior debut here and then being made the youngest ever captain topped it off.
"It gave me a grounding that I will always be thankful for and remember fondly.
"Looking forward, I can't wait to get started with this new chapter in my career. My first job will be meeting everyone involved with the club and outlining my vision.
"I have a good idea about someone who I would like to work alongside me and also players I would like to bring in and with pre-season fast approaching I need to make some calls and plan for the season.
"I'd like to think it will be a smooth transition with me coming in given my knowledge of the club and the supporters.
"I want to give it my all and if I do that it will give me the best chance of being successful.
"It's a pleasure to be working with the owner Steve Adkins, the rest of the Board and the Members Club - I know I will have their full support. It is a massive club and I hope that I can help it grow and develop."
Tanner's appointment suggests an end to the speculation surrounding the Terrors this summer.
