Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has challenged his players to get two points per game in the Blue Square South, and so far they delivering.

Speaking after their first win in 10 league games on Tuesday night, Doswell revealed they have put matches into groups of five and that they want 10 points from each segment.

The challenge started with the 1-1 draw at Tonbridge Angels last weekend, continued with the 1-0 mid-week win over Chemlsford City and goes into the visit of Tonbridge on Saturday.

Doswell said: "We’ve put the coming games into five-game segments and we’ve asked for two points per game if we can.

"So far we've got four points from two games, so we’re on our way to getting to our little targets.

"Traditionally, we beat Tonbridge at their place and they beat us here. That is something we need to be aware of."

He added: "But what this win over Chelmsford does is give you that confidence and puts a smile back on your face and makes you keep the faith in what you are doing.

"We’ve only lost three games out of the first 10 in the league, but when you’re losing you don’t ever think you’re going to win again, and when you’re winning you don’t see where the next defeat is going to come from and that’s football.

"Last year we had a run of 15 games without losing and we’re going to have to do something similar this year at some point.

"If we can get a win on Saturday that is five games unbeaten, including two wins. So it could be the kick start that we needed."

Tonbridge are enduring a start to the season similar to Sutton. It took them eight attempts to get their first win, although they had drawn five of the previous seven games, and they arrive at Gander Green Lane on the back of an unbeaten run of eight games, with a 2-1 win at Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday night being the most recent.
