Damian Scannell is considering answering Paul Doswell’s SOS call and returning to Sutton United.

The winger joined Conference South rivals Bromley in the summer, but has found opportunities limited, making six appearances and scoring just one goal.

Doswell is in the midst of a striking nightmare at Gander Green Lane, with Nick Bignall likely to join Hampton & Richmond Borough on loan to get game time, and Jo Kuffour now recovering from a knee injury.

Scannell is not his only target and Doswell remains in talks with a Conference Premier side about another striking option, while an approach for Jamie White of Bristol Rovers appears to have been rebuffed.

Doswell said: “We’d love to have Damian back with us until the end of the season.

“Mark Goldberg [Bromley boss] has been really helpful in getting things sorted, but now it is up to Damian to see if he can organise his courier job around our training.”

He added: “Nick [Bignall] showed for 20 minutes in the win at Farnborough that he can be a good player, but he needs game time.

“Jessy Reindorf is prone to getting injured and he’s not managed to string more than two games together, which he needs to work on.”

Doswell has also rung the changes in the coaching staff, letting Matt Lockwood and Jamie Lawrence go, and bringing in former Eastleigh boss Ian Baird.

Steve Beck has also been promoted from chief scout to work alongside assistant manager Micky Stephens.

Doswell said: “Jamie did a fantastic job for us over the summer in terms of the fitness and conditioning, and he will do a good job for anyone who takes him on.

“Matt’s position was more a question of commitment and it was getting difficult for him living in Scotland.

“As an example, he caught a 6am flight from Edinburgh and missed the Whitehawk game – he got there just before the kick-off, but it was too late.

“There was another time when the plane was cancelled and he drove eight hours through the night – you cannot do that and expect to be fresh.”

He added: “There were high hopes that he would be able to move back down south.

“It was a case of suck it and see, we both accepted that – and if it did not pan out then we could look at each other and shake hands on it, and that’s what we’ve done.”
