Sutton United first team coach Steve McKimm has hailed the return to form of striker Jamie Taylor.

The 31-year-old hitman has struggled with injury and off the field issues since arriving at Gander Green Lane in the summer.

After a meagre return of four goals in 10 league appearance, Taylor was loaned out to Skrill South rivals Eastbourne Borough, where he bagged four goals in five outings.

At the time, United boss Paul Doswell said he would allow Taylor to join the south coast club if they stumped up the right amount of cash.

However, the move did not materialise and Taylor has since featured in back-to-back United victories, culminating in scoring a terrific winner in the 1-0 win at Basingstoke on Saturday.

McKimm said: “Jamie’s attitude has been spot on the moment he arrived at the club in the summer.

“He’s had niggling injuries and some personal issues to deal with, so Paul [Doswell] gave him some time out at Eastbourne, and it has done him the world of good.”

He added: “His goal at Basingstoke was excellent, especially given the horrible conditions.

“[Damian] Scannell did well to find Jamie, and without any back lift he found the roof of the net.

“He’s been doing that in training so we know all too well what he is capable of, we just need to get the ball to him in the right areas.”

Meanwhile, the United team has another new face after central defender Louis John, 21, joined from Crawley Town until the end of the season.

Wimbledon Times:

Gone: Last week he was annoyed that the weather was interuptting Sutton United's season,  this week he has left for Margate

Mitchell Nelson has gone out the Lane door, becoming the sixth United man to join Margate.

McKimm said: “Paul [Doswell] has the expertise to bring in players who are equal if not better than the players who leave and he has done it again with Louis.

“He’s a young man and is showing plenty of promise in training. But we do need to see how he responds in a match.”

United are due to host Boreham Wood this weekend, weather pending.

“There have been lots of really bad downpours in the past couple of days, so it is a case of fingers crossed,” McKimm said.
