Tooting & Mitcham United first team coach Mark Hams remains in charge of Kingstonian’s academy, but is in talks with the club over his future.

Hams, former assistant to Ks legend Alan Dowson, was unveiled as part of the Terrors’ management team last month after the Imperial Fields club confirmed manager Craig Tanner would not be in charge next term.

Hams set-up Ks’ academy – in conjunction with Guildford College – during a long spell at the club.

“At present I’m still in charge, but there are discussions to be had,” he said.

Hams returned to Imperial Fields last month having last appeared there as a player more 14 years ago.

The 38-year-old and 28-year-old manager Frank Wilson, a City estate agent by trade, will take the reins for this summer.

Tanner ended his reign after last night’s London Senior Cup clash with Hendon.

And Hams, out of football since being sacked by Ryman Division One South Walton Casuals last year, cannot wait to get going.

“People have said I’ve been eyeing up Craig Tanner’s job all season are wide of the mark,” he added.

“I like Craig and we get on well – contrary to popular belief. Things happened very quickly and I did not know anything about him leaving.

“It happened very quickly, I was asked about the job on the Sunday, met the board on Monday and was given the job on Tuesday.

“It feels like I’ve come home. I was born in Tooting, lived there and played there.

“A lot of people who were there when I was at the club 14 years ago, are still there. I’m really pleased to be going back to a club I love.”

Hams hosts a benefit day at Walton Casuals this Sunday for brother Neil, a former Chelsea prospect and Stags coach, who was struck down by motor neurone disease earlier this year.

The event features a charity football match kicking off at 12 noon and also has face painting, live music, a bouncy castle and a football memorabilia auction.

The event has support from a host of top names in the game, including Manchester United defender Luke Shaw and Burnley defender Steven Reid.

Signed Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City shirts – as well as a golf day with ex-Premier League star Jimmy Bullard – will go under the hammer.

“This is all about raising awareness of the illness and getting friends and family together for a good day in aid of Neil. Everyone is welome,” added Hams.
