Walton & Hersham boss Tony Reid revealed Tuesday’s derby win over Walton Casuals was made in a Kingstonian shirt.

The 39-year-old scored for Kingstonian Vets in a 2-0 Vets Cup win over Leiston on Sunday to ease the pain of his side’s 3-2 defeat at Whitstable Town on Saturday.

It helped clear the Stompond Lane chief’s mind in time to include striker Louis Glace-Palmer in his matchday squad for Tuesday’s trip to Waterside Drive

And it was Glace-Palmer’s first half hat-trick after his introduction as a substitute for injured Matt Reece that led to a thumping 5-1 win over Casuals – the third triumph of Reid’s five match reign.

“The mood from Sunday’s game put me in a better frame of mind,” said the manager, the third different Swans boss to take charge of this fixture this season.

“By playing on Sunday it let me get my frustration out, cleared my head and by Monday night I knew what I was going to go with.

“Reece’s injury changed it up a bit and Louis Glace-Palmer, came in and what an entrance.

“He was on the verge of being disappointed. I spoke to him on Monday, included him in the squad and I’m glad I did that.”

He added: “Winning this is just another game for me. The bragging rights go to the supporters and the committee.”

Sacha Mbaye and former Casuals man Andrew Mensah added to Glace-Palmer triple – against his former club – to leave the Stags 5-0 up at half-time.

And the moment was not lost on the hat-trick hero.

“Scoring a hat-trick is special, but to get it against your old club makes it double special,” he added.

The result effectively condemned once play-off chasing Casuals to Ryman Division One South mid-table mediocrity and boss Mark Hams, who saw his men beat league leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe 4-2 on Saturday,  could only apologise.

“I don’t mind going through life embarrassing myself, but I cannot tolerate other people embarrassing me” her said.

“I’d like the headline to be ‘Hams apologises to Walton-on-Thames’.”

“I apologise to our supporters for the complete and utter embarrassment and I apologise to the Walton & Hersham fans because we haven’t given them a game.

“We were the better team in the second half, but who cares. We were 5-0 down.

“On our day we can beat anyone, but when we go we just capitulate. As a level four coach I wish I could  put my finger on why.”

And it leaves Reid looking  to next season with relish.

“We need to finish as high as we can to show we can compete in this league and  attract players,” he added.
