Walton Casuals chairman Tony Gale has revealed there was only one person on his shortlist to replace sacked Mick Sullivan – because he did not want to bring in an outsider.

New boss Danny Carroll was offically confirmed as the Stags’ permanent manager on Friday, having overseen last week’s impressive 1-1 draw at Maidstone United on a caretaker basis.
 

The 36-year-old joined the club back in October as coach, having had spells as a player at Stevenage, Crawley, Bromley and Farnborough Town.
 

He is best remembered for an FA Cup third round hat-trick for Farnborough against Darlington that set up a memorable fourth round clash with Arsenal back in 2003.
 

“We are in a dogfight after a terrible start and we have decided to go a different way with a coach,” said Gale.
 

“I didn’t want to go through an application process when we have the ideal man here already.”
 

The management team is completed by coach Kevin Molloy and assistant manager Gary Farrell, who returns having previously assisted  Neil Shipperley.
 

Walton, who saw their game at Eastbourne town postponed last week, host Leatherhead tomorrow.
