Carshalton Athletic forward Tommy Bradford endured mixed emotions as his side dropped two points against struggling East Grinstead Town last Saturday.

The Robins were two-up inside 50 minutes courtesy of strikes from Mickel Miller and Bradford, which was the latter’s 22nd goal of the season, but the visiting Wasps stung their hosts with two goals in as many minutes to set up a tense finale.

The 2-2 draw, after Carshalton’s visit to Corinthian Casuals on Easter Monday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, has left the Robins 11th in Ryman Division One South ahead of a mid-table clash against Three Bridges this weekend.

“They were always going to fight until the end and they punished us for perhaps getting too comfortable,” said Bradford.

“We should have wrapped up the game before they got their first however, we missed some good chances to end up with four or five goals.”

But the 21-year-old has now hit seven league goals in his past five appearances to become Carshalton’s overall top scorer – a feat made even more impressive when considering Bradford only had only one goal to his name before a hat-trick performance against Guernsey at the end of October.

“I didn’t start this season very well and I was in and out the team. The lack of goals weighed on my mind, especially as I was playing as a main striker when selected back then,” he said.

“But the new boss [Chris McGinn] is letting me play with a bit more freedom, which lets me get more involved in our build-up play and I’m enjoying it.

“I set myself a target of 15 goals for this season so I’m obviously happy to beat that and I’m buzzing for our remaining games.”
