Leatherhead boss Mike Sandmann believes his side’s recent form is not poor, but admitted it is not ideal.

Prior to last night's 2-1 win over Burgess Hill Town, thanks to goals from Ryan Mahal and Phil Walsh, the Tanners had lost four of the previous eight league games and picked up just one win, leaving them 15th in the Ryman Premier Division.

It is a far cry from when Sandmann took over the job in December and immediately presided over five consecutive wins.

However, despite the dip in form, including a 1-1 draw at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, Sandmann is not too concerned.

He said: “Our form has not been poor, but it is not ideal.

“We’ve played a lot of the teams near the top of the table, teams we are not expected to beat.

“We have managed to beat teams around us though which is important.”

He added: “Wingate was a typical game between two mid-table teams with nothing to play for – maybe there is a hint of complacency among the players as there is little to play for.

“As much as we wanted the players to show that they want to be here next season, it was important after the Bognor result [a 3-0 defeat] not to drop points again.”

With the team in no danger of slipping out of the league this year, sitting 14 points above the relegation zone, the Tanners boss will soon be turning his thoughts to next season.

He said: “I will sit down with the club at the end of the season to discuss the direction of the club.

“We need to decide whether we are going to try and push for the play-offs next year.”
