Carshalton Athletic manager Chris McGinn said he enjoyed seeing his side display “great spirit” after they came from behind to beat Chipstead 3-1 on Saturday.

Despite falling behind to an early Billy Marshall header, the Robins rallied and top scorer Tommy Bradford took his personal goal tally to 21 after he converted two long-range strikes and a second-half penalty.

The result leaves the Robins just outside the top 10 in Ryman Division One South ahead of a home game against struggling East Grinstead Town this weekend.

“These type of game, against a team full of ex-Carshalton players and on a sticky pitch, would always be hard fought,” said McGinn.

“It was difficult to play our free-flowing game but to come back after conceding early shows that the character and spirit within this squad is growing game-by-game.”

And the Carshalton head honcho was also pleased with how his team adapted to the conditions at High Road.

“Although we couldn’t show our best passing form on Saturday, what we did do was prove we can win in any circumstances,” McGinn added.

“I was also pleased to see the set-pieces we’ve been working on in training coming off during the game too.”

McGinn also reserved a mention for his side’s goal-den hero for whom Saturday’s hat-trick was the second of his season to date.

“Tommy has done well but he really seems to be enjoying himself in the new role we’ve deployed him in. I was also pleased to see others like Ricardo [Panton] and Paris [Hamilton-Downes] working so hard and doing well,” he said.
