Carshalton Athletic's Jordan Higgs claimed a career first in Saturday's win over Hastings United, but he refused to reflect on personal glory at the expense of the team.

The Robins beat their promotion-chasing rivals 3-1 thanks to a dominant performance that featured two second half goals from Higgs - the first time he has scored twice in a competitive match.

His brace was pre-empted by top scorer Tommy Bradford's opener on 17 minutes, who took his season's tally to 18 in all competitions.

The result leaves Carshalton 12th, and as one of three teams on 61 points, in Ryman Division One South ahead of a visit to a resurgent Chipstead this weekend (kick-off 3pm).

"I'm happy to grab my first double but this was a fantastic team performance," said Higgs.

"We completely dominated the first-half and felt disappointed to only be one-up at half-time.

"But, aside from a 10-minute spell in which they got their goal we stuck to our game plan and went on to claim victory."

The 18-year old midfielder restored Carshalton's lead by heading home substitute Esteban Salgado's cross on 72 minutes before his second, in added time, came after swapping 40 yards passes with forward Michael Campbell.

"Esteban did well to get his cross in and thankfully I kept the ball on target despite getting clattered," Higgs added.

"Michael was unselfish with his return pass too and it shows we have quality throughout our squad."

And Higgs reserved extra praise for Chris McGinn, who has now been in charge of Carshalton for nearly two months.

"I've personally not worked with a manager who is so detailed and clear about how he wants his team to play," he said.

"He gives us confidence at every turn and we work on our passing and movement at every opportunity, which people are now seeing the benefits of when we play matches."
