Tooting & Mitcham United boss Frank Wilson admitted his players were “gutted” to be thrown out of a second cup competition earlier this week.

The Terrors fielded an ineligible player in the Surrey Senior Cup win over Godalming, and after their own investigations withdrew from the quarter-final clash at Whyteleafe.

It is the second time this season an administration foul up has ended a cup run after they fielded another ineligible in the Robert Dyas Cup in December.

The club posted an apology on their website stating: “We are now undertaking an urgent review of our player registration processes to ensure that this cannot happen again.”

Wilson would not comment on the club’s internal investigations or the potential ramifications, however, he acknowledged the players’ disappointment.

The Terrors were going into the cup clash on the crest of a good run of form, having lost just once in nine games, culminating in last weekend’s 4-1 over South Park.

“We’re gutted about not being able to play on Tuesday, not because it was a cup quarter-final, but because we are playing really well and the boys are anxious to get every game under way because they feel invincible,” he said.

“Our form since making a lot of changes in October has been good. We almost had to rebuild a team, so we had to expect it to take a bit of time.

“But since the new year, and having given the boys enough time to stabilise, we’ve had some great results and performances.

“Our league position does not lie, but we’re approaching every game with such confidence that we feel we can beat anyone and that’s how the players are feeling.”

The Terrors, 15th in Ryman Division One South, go to Hastings United this weekend.
