Corinthian Casuals striker Emmanuel Akokhia is hoping finishing the campaign as the club's leading scorer can help fire boss James Bracken's men to the Ryman Division One South play-offs.

Akokhia hit his 13th goal of the season as further strikes from Ben King, Niall Wright and Shaun Okojie gave Casuals a 4-0 home win over Chatham Town on Saturday.

Josh Uzun currently leads the Casuals scoring charts way with 15 goals this term,  closely followed by Akokhia and Juevan Spencer, who also has 13 goals to his name.

Repeat performance: Emmanuel Akokhia scored with this header in the away clash at Chatham Town earlier this season

The King George's Field outfit are two places and three points off the division's top five and Akokhia, who had not scored in the league since October before last week's win over Guernsey, believes Casuals can maintain their promotion push.

“I did have a dip in the goalscoring department. I’m not entirely sure why. But I think I’ve found my feet again," he said.

“I’m definitely feeling more confident. The goal against Guernsey was what I needed to kick start the goals again.

Back on song: Emmanuel Akokhia has endured a lean spell in front of goal, but believes he is out the other side

"I had a sense of bad luck where a few things wouldn’t go my way, such as goalkeepers making saves where in another game, it goes in.

“But now I can feel the goals coming again.

“We’re definitely in a good position, but we could’ve been higher up if we look back at games where we’ve let it slip a little.

Duck broken: Casuals' Ben King, left, celebrates scoring his first goal for the club against Chatham Town on Saturday

"But we’ve put that behind us now and we’re looking to reach the play-offs.

“Getting that top scorer spot is one of my personal goals and hopefully that’ll happen.”

Boss Bracken was delighted to see his men put Chatham to the sword and reckons back-to-back successes have given his men back their belief.

Bench warmer: Shaun Okojie climbed off the bench to score the final goal in Saturday's 4-0 romp past Chatham Town

“There’s been a little shift in confidence in the last couple of games," he added.

"We always know we’re hard to beat, but now there’s also a belief that we can go out and put teams to the sword by scoring a few more goals than we previously have.

Delighted: Corinthian Casuals boss James Bracken applauds the supporters on Saturday

“It’s pleasing to score more than one or two goals. Like I’ve said before, we’ve got a good strike force.

"We’ve got players who can score goals from all over the pitch.

“The players we have are of good technical ability and if they get the chances, they should be scoring.

“There’s still a lot of games to play. I’m back to where I was at the start of the season by saying I won’t get carried away.

"We’ll keep ticking them off one at a time and hopefully, come the end of the season, we’ll have put enough wins in the box to go and place ourselves in the play-offs.”
