Carshalton Athletic put in one of their best performances of this season on Saturday, but it did not yield three points – an ending especially galling for the man who endured one of the quietest afternoons of his playing career.

Robins goalkeeper Luke Colquhoun had little to do, but watch his team-mates spurn chance after chance against visiting Corinthian Casuals, whom eventually punished the Robins by heading home a late goal to steal an unlikely point.

The 1-1 draw leaves Matt Howard's men on the edge of the Ryman Division One South play-off positions, but the shot stopper said the result felt like a defeat.

“We were the better team across the 90 minutes, attacking at will and defending excellently throughout, but one lapse of concentration on a free kick slung into our box cost us,” said Colquhoun.

“Their goal came from their only opportunity in the second-half, but we should’ve been at least four or five up by then, so we all felt frustrated at the final whistle.”

Carshalton were denied on numerous occasions by either wayward finishing or Casuals keeper Danny Bracken, until Tommy Bradford coolly broke the deadlock on 53 minutes.

Bobby Price and sub Kingsley Aikhionbare then both failed to convert further golden chances to extend that lead, meaning Shaun Okojie’s 83rd minute header for Casuals counted for more than mere consolation.

“Other clubs around us thankfully lost on Saturday so this result keeps us in the play-off hunt, but we definitely consider it two points dropped,” added Colquhoun.

Carshalton travel to second-placed Worthing this Saturday (kick-off 3pm) and Colquhoun sees the need for his team to come away with victory.

“We need to take points off of those around us because it is so tight at the moment,” he added.

“It’ll be a tough game at Worthing but we’ve got to go there feeling positive.”
