Leatherhead crashed out of the FA Trophy on Saturday at Fetcham Grove after being put to the sword 5-1 by Kingstonian.

The  Tanners boss Richard Brady had Matt Smart and Phil Walsh available for selection on Saturday and both players started.

Kingstonian had the added advantage of being able to select highly-rated 19-year-old striker George Oakley, signed on loan from AFC Wimbledon on Friday.

With less than 20 seconds played the tie had to be stopped for three minutes after a clash of heads between Leatherhead’s Walsh and Kingstonian’s Aaron Goode, with Walsh receiving treatment to a cut to the side of his right eye.

Then, with seven minutes on the clock, Oakley broke clear of his marker, testing Louis Wells with a rasping shot that the Leatherhead keeper could only manage to parry into the path of Pico Gomez for a simple tap-in.

After sustaining a head injury earlier in the game, Walsh received further treatment midway through the first half, and it was while he was off the pitch that the visitors scored their second.

The Tanners defence failed to clear Dan Bennett’s probing free kick, allowing Lee O’Leary to steal in and stab the ball home from close range.

The tie was more or less over as a contest when the visitors added a third goal in first half stoppage time.

Bennett sent another looping free kick into Leatherhead’s penalty area, with the tentative Tanners defence allowing Peter Dean to steal in and turn the ball past Wells.

Tough day: Leatherhead's Vas Karragiannis is shadowed by Ks' Aaron Goode and Dan Bennett

There was a brief ray of sunshine for the hosts in the opening minutes of the second half when Adam Yusuff tested Ks keeper Rob Tolfrey with a low shot, which was turned behind for a corner.

But Kingstonian put the tie beyond doubt with a fourth goal on 49 minutes.

Wells failed to deal with Tolfrey’s long range clearance and the lightening-paced Oakley made a fine interception to tuck the ball home from a tight angle.

And to rub salt into Leatherhead’s wounds, Bennett made it five for the visitors on 68 minutes, cutting loose from his marker to turn another effort past Wells.

The hosts finally made it onto the score sheet after 87 minutes when Kiernan Hughes-Mason was tripped just inside the Ks area, and he converted his own spot kick on the rebound.

Tanners now have an enforced three break before their next first team match with their scheduled opponents all involved in cup competitions.
