Carshalton Athletic captain Tony Sinclair says his side missed a good opportunity to leave high-flying Molesey with a result on Tuesday evening.

The Robins took a 21st minute lead through Dan Summers' fifth goal of the season, but eventually lost 2-1 against one of the Ryman Division One South's early pacesetters.

The defeat was compounded by the dismissal of Paris Hamilton-Downes midway through the second-half.

And Sinclair, who re-joined Carshalton for a third spell just last week, says the team must capitalise when on top in games.

"I've said to the lads that we must take advantage while things are going for us," he said.

"We enjoyed a good spell where we dominated possession and got a few decisions go our way, but we failed to get a second and, when the tide turned after the break, it ended up costing us.

"I was proud of our work ethic however, everyone kept going right until the very last kick and I felt we were worth at least a point."

Sinclair also revealed his delight about being back at Colton Avenue after recovering from a knee injury that disrupted his time at the club last season.

"I spoke to the manager [Matt Howard] during pre-season, but the timing wasn't ideal as I was still recuperating," he added.

"But I was happy to return when discussions resumed last month because Carshalton has a place in my heart.

"It's great the club has continued to develop the younger players, but there is also an experienced spine here now.

"It's an exciting mix and I hope we can all begin to take the club forward,"

Carshalton Athletic play host to Whyteleafe on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.
