Tooting & Mitcham United boss Frank Wilson refused to be downbeat despite the Terrors’ exit from the FA Cup on Saturday.

A 3-1 defeat to Brackley Town at Imperial Fields ended the Terrors’ interest in the competition that had seen them beat Ramsgate and Farnham Town.

After falling 2-0 down, Leon Lalor-Dell halved the deficit with three minutes left on the clock.

However, Brackley Town, who ply their trade two steps above the Terrors in the National League South, put the game to bed on the final whistle.

Wilson said: “We gave an excellent account of ourselves against a team that plays two divisions above us.

“Brackley were everything we expected them to be. They were professional, very well drilled and gave away very little during the day.

“For there to be a shock in the cup, we needed them to have a bad day and they had a good day.

“We’re disappointed to be out, but we’re happy with the performance.”

He added: “We played so well and created a few good goal-scoring chances when it was 0-0.

“If we had taken them, it would have been a very different outcome.

“The chances we created were bigger than the ones they created, but they took their chances clinically, and that’s the difference between the leagues.”

They return to action in Ryman Division One South tomorrow night with the visit of Hythe Town, ahead of Saturday’s FA Trophy clash at home to Walton & Hersham.

Wilson said: “The FA Cup has been a pleasant distraction, but it is back the important stuff of putting points on the table.

“Hythe is a winnable game, and if we carry on the form we’ve shown in the cup games, we can get ourselves up the table.”
