Corinthian Casuals boss James Bracken showed some brotherly love after watching his side slip to a 1-0 defeat to league leaders and title favourites Folkestone Invicta on Saturday,

Ian Draycott's overhead kick that sneaked past Casuals keeper Danny Bracken - the manager's brother - settled the match as Bracken senior's men slipped to fourth in the Ryman Division One South table.

But the King George's Field chief refused to be down beat and heaped praise on his shot stopper, who pulled off two smart saves to prevent the scoreline from flattering the visitors.

“I know more than anyone how good Danny is," said the manager.

"It’s been a different start to the season for him because last year, when I watched him, some games he’d be called to save eight or nine one-on-ones.

"This season, I think I can count on one hand the good saves he’s made in the first six games.

"He’s shown how good he is again today. He’s had less exposure this year as we’ve been defending slightly better.

"But when he’s needed to pull out the saves, he has and that’s what he’s there to do."

He added: “It was a tight game which could’ve gone either way, but it’s gone theirs and that’s life. Next week might bring another tight game and it might go our way.

“It was good to be in a game against a decent side that have started well and yet be so competitive. After the game, their manager has been very complimentary of us which is a nice touch.

“We try to base everything we do on keeping clean sheets and if you try to go out every match and win 4-3, you’ll end up near the bottom of table. You’ve got to try to go out and win 1-0 or 2-0.

“To win this league, you’ve gotta score close to 100 goals and you’ll need to keep clean sheets for 50 per cent of your games."

Casuals travel to third placed Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday.
