Tooting & Mitcham United boss Frank Wilson embarks on his first FA Cup journey as a manager this weekend, without his number one striker.

Hot-shot Dan Summers, who hit 36 goals in all competitions last season, is set to join Ryman Division One South rivals Carshalton Athletic.

Coming in his place is for the Terrors is Jamie Byatt, scorer of 32 goals for Corinthian Casuals last season, and he could go straight into the side that travels to Ramsgate on Saturday for the FA Cup preliminary round.

Wilson’s Terrors have endured a tough start to the season, following an opening day win at East Grinstead Town with three league consecutive defeats – including last weekend’s 2-1 result at Walton & Hersham – and a win in the first round of the Robert Dyas League Cup.

However, despite being away from home this weekend, Wilson is confident of a result.

“Home advantage does not count for very much when it’s your first FA Cup game of the season,” he said.

“Everyone will be really up for the game, and being the FA Cup it means so much more the players and fans.

Wimbledon Times:

Gone to pastures new: Dan Summers, right, was prolific for the Terrors last season, but he has left to be replaced by Jamie Byatt

“We lost at Walton & Hersham, but we played some of the best football we’ve played this season, so we’re in a positive mood and we have momentum going to Ramsgate.”

Wilson admitted it was a surprised when Summers announced he was leaving at the weekend, but he bears no grudges.

“I don’t have a bad word to sat about Dan. Unfortunately he has not been able to find the form he had last season, which is down to missing a large part of pre-season.

“He has not been as fit or sharp, and has looked like a frustrated striker in the games he has played.

“May be the change of scenery will do him good, because if he gets fit, then we all know what he is really capable of.”

He added: “Jamie [Byatt] is someone we looked at in pre-season, but he was loyal to Corinthian Casuals.

“He has not started many games this season, and may be the new manager wanted to go in a different direction.

“Jamie will need to gel into the side, but he may play against Ramsgate.”

The Terrors faced Carshalton Athletic in the league on Tuesday night.
