Leatherhead and Met Police shared the points on a day of commemorative celebrations for the Tanners.

Vasileios Karagiannis gave Tanners the lead early in the second half, before Charlie Collins equalised for the Blues with a direct dree-kick.

The point keeps Met inside the play-offs of the Ryman Premier Division, and the Tanners stay 14th in the table.

Leatherhead hosted a 40th anniversary celebration lunch to honour the 1975 Tanners side who reached the fourth Round of the FA Cup before bowing out 3-2 against Leicester City in front of 32,000 fans at Filbert Street.

But there was very little for the 2015 Tanners supporters to cheer in a tight opening half.

Matt Pattison had the best chance for the Blues when his close range effort was blocked by Leatherhead’s Ryan Mahal after 43 minutes.

Tanners took the lead on 53 minutes - Stacy Long intercepted a poor clearance from Blues keeper Stuart Searle, squaring the ball to Karagiannis who fired home from the edge of the box.

The Police levelled when Collins struck a delightful free kick into the bottom right corner on 64 minutes.

Tanners sub Becka Kah Dembele almost won it for the hosts 10 minutes later but his goal-bound free-kick was turned behind by Searle.

The match ended on a sour note when Met sub Nigel Neita was red carded after a crunching tackle from behind on Leatherhead’s Matt Smart.

Tanners return to Fetcham Grove on Wednesday when they entertain Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the third round of the Surrey Senior Cup (Kick-off 7.45pm).
