Leatherhead boss Richard Brady admitted his envy of the Met Police side he faces tomorrow, but insists he is hunting for new names to level the playing field.

The Tanners, 14th in the Ryman Premier League, enjoyed a late winner from the spot in their 4-3 victory over Bognor Regis on Wednesday, but now face a sterner challenge in Met Police, who sit in fifth.

Brady’s men have shown inconsistent form since promotion last season – winning three in the past eight league games, but losing four.

On the other hand, Met go into the game on the back of a seven-match unbeaten league run, including five wins.

Brady said: “Jim Cooper [Met boss] has put a strong squad together and it’ll be a tough game.

“We got the win the other night and we want to put a run together, but Met are a good team and are playing well. All the teams at this level are good.

“We’ve been pretty inconsistent, but we were only promoted last year so there’s always a bit of an adjustment to life at this level.”

The Tanners manager is hunting for signings to keep the team in the Ryman top flight.

“We are looking for players, as a manager you’re always looking, there’s a couple of names that could be happening, so you never rule it out. There may be some movement soon,” he said.

“We’re trying to put points on the board every match and put some results together, we don’t really want to think about relegation.”

A red card for Richard Avery in the 4-3 victory over Bognor Regis has contributed to a growing list of players unavailable to Brady in his battle to avoid the drop.

He said: “The sending off was just an incident off the ball really, there was a tangle of legs and a man goes down and then it just happens that the referee gives a red card.

“Richard will be looking at a suspension in two weeks.”

He added: “We’ve had a few red cards recently but we’ll deal with each as they come.”

Despite the player shortage, former QPR man Brady will not be using his links to get in contact with striker Andy Johnson, recently released from Premier League Crystal Palace.

He said: “I heard he’s moving down a league or two, but either way he’s too good for us.”
