Carshalton Athletic caretaker boss Rob Scantlebury was full of admiration for his players after the Robins ended a run of nine games without a win in fine style.

The club took on Ramsgate last Saturday, the first game since the managerial departure of Stuart Massey a few days before, and Mickel Miller and Michael Campbell both scored two each to earn a 4-0 victory.

The result sees Carshalton move away from the bottom four of Ryman Division One South, climbing three places to 18th.

Scantlebury said: "We knew it would be a tense affair because we need to start picking up points, but the response from the boys was magnificent.

"My coaching staff and I laid out a game plan and the players' efforts were rewarded.

"It was nice to see Mickel and Michael get their goals but the win was just reward for all involved, particularly our skipper Tony Sinclair.

"This result will only go to increasing confidence around the whole place."

Scantlebury has been with Carshalton for four years and he helped establish the current award-winning youth set-up, while the departing Massey gave him the chance to manage the reserves this season.

"Stuart only wanted what was best for Carshalton, and he worked extremely hard at the job, but things didn't quite pan out," Scantlebury added.

"I'm happy to look after things in the interim however as I have a great support network between the players, coaching staff and back room team."

Carshalton travel to fifth-placed Merstham this Saturday but Scantlebury is looking forward to the clash.

"It'll be a hard game this weekend but I don't shirk from challenges," he said.

"We'll enjoy our moment against Ramsgate but, once we are back into training this week, we'll be working hard work at training to make sure we give Merstham a game."
