Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Paul Barry has urged his men to erase the memory of a disappointing season with cup glory.

The Beavers take on Ryman Premier League champions Wealdstone in the Middlesex Senior Cup final tomorrow, having ended their league campaign with a 2-0 defeat at relegated Carshalton Athletic.

Barry and fellow joint manager Darren Powell saw their side finish 12th in the table after a campaign that has struggled to catch light, with the exception of some FA Cup and Vase excitement and the odd unbeaten run.

“We’ve had some highs and lows this season,” he said.

“We’ve got more points than last season and finished higher in the league, but the a smaller budget so that is good.

“But we have let ourselves down against the lower teams.

“There is enough there to build on for next season, but winning the cup would be a great way to finish the season.”

Barry and Powell will bring the curtain down on their first full season in charge at the Beveree and will spend the summer fending off offers for their better players.

The pair, who this week confirmed Ben Harris had committed his immediate future to the club, are confident of pinning down star strikers Charlie Moone – who has an option to extend his current contract – and Dave Tarpey to new deals.

“Darren and I are still learning and we can keep most of the squad we will be in a good position,” he added.

“The budget will probably shrink a bit, but I am confident we’ll keep the players we want to keep.

“Some will get better offers and go but they will all go with our best wishes.”

Touchy: Hampton keeper Luke Edgescombe, gets a hand on a Jason Henry effort. The keeper, who had a torrid afternoon at Colston Avenue, featured to protect Rodney Chiweshe from injury ahead of Saturday’s Middlesex Senior Cup tie at Wealdstone. Chiweshe’s understudy is illegible for the final, which means Hampton would have been without a recognised number one in the event the Beavers’ regular shot-stopper got injured
