Duku: Ks must improve

Kingstonian defender Francis Duku admits his side must show some consistency if they are to maintain their bid for a Ryman Premier play-off place.

Alan Dowson’s men followed up Boxing Day’s impressive 3-2 win at play-off rivals Tooting & Mitcham with a horror show in a 3-1 home defeat to relegation-threatened Bognor Regis Town on Monday.

And Duku reckons it is a case of improve or else for the Kingsmeadow side.

He said: “The Bognor game was a massive disappointment for everybody.

“We had targeted six points from the two games and to slip-up was massively frustrating.

“It was a bad day at the office and I don’t think anybody could put their hand up and say they played well - myself included.

“It was the type of thing that seems to happen in football, but if we have hopes of making the play-offs we cannot have many more days like that.”

Carl Wilson-Denis, Dean Lodge and Bobby Traynor were on target at Imperial Fields, and it was Traynor again with Kingstonian’s consolation in Monday’s defeat.

And for Duku it was a hash lesson to take on board.

He added: “We just did not get started.

“Bognor are a better side than their league position suggests but we should have easily been able to deal with them.

“We approached the game in the right way - things just did not work out.

“We seem to be struggling at home at the moment and I cannot put my finger on why.”

Kingstonian welcome Tooting for the return clash this weekend and Duku accepts it is a great opportunity to get back on track.

He added: “You always look to the next game and thankfully it comes around quickly.

“Tooting are a decent team who have similar ambitions to us and we will have to be on the top of our game to pick up the points.”

Kingstonian’s next three matches: Jan 2 Tooting & Mitcham (h), 9 Harrow Borough (a), 16 Waltham Abbey (a)
