Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson pointed the finger at his defenders after a disappointing final 20 minutes wasted 70 minutes of good football.

Jake Rose gave the Beavers the lead in Tuesday night’s Ryman Premier League clash, only for late goals to gift Canvey Island all three points at the Beveree.

The Beavers sit precariously above the dropzone in 16th – they are six points clear, but all the teams bar one have games in hand.

Dowson said: “It has been the story of our season so far, balls come into the box and we concede goals.

“I am looking forward to training when we’ll watch the video and telling the defenders we’ve got problems.

“We’ve got big strapping lads, but we’re struggling, as we have from day one.”

He added: “It’s all down to a lack of concentration. We were doing OK on a heavy pitch, winning 1-0 and you’re about to win the game.

“But it was too easy for them to get past the full backs and get the crosses in, how often can we keep making these mistakes?”

Life gets no easier for Dowson this weekend when big-spending and table-topping Margate, featuring Ryan Moss, who played at Ks under Dowson last season, come to the Beveree.
