Molesey will enter the last sprint of the season with a renewed vigour and intensity after gaining two points on Guildford during the midweek.

Molesey beat Cove 3-1 and then the following night the league leaders were held to a shock 2-2 draw to strugglers Dorking.

Molesey's first hurdle to overcome in the final dash was a home tie to Horley. A game that Molesey would be expected to win on paper but would be made more tricky by the huge swirling winds that were sweeping Walton Road.

Fortunately the Moles started very brightly and kept the football on the deck where they are most comfortable with it.

The Moles were dominating the early exchanges in a very ill tempered game. The Horley side were a lot bigger than the young Moles side and that led to frequent little incidents that meant the first half was a very niggly affair.

But the Moles first opening didn't come until the 16th minute and it was an important opening because it gave the Moles the lead that their play deserved.

An excelently swung in cross from centre back Jordan McCartney was just too high for Lewis Ackerman in the middle but managed to drop right at the feet of the on rushing Ashley Lodge who volleyed home from close range to give the Moles the lead.

On the 25th minute Darius Heravi nicked the ball off of the defence and ran one on one at the Horley goal, however his shot was tame and easily kept out by Joe McLoughlin in the Horley goal.

Just two minutes after that James McShane got on the end of an Ashley Lodge cross but after his header was planted into the net he wheeled away to see the referees assistant waving for offside.

But just when Molesey were getting a little sloppy they managed to get a second goal just before half time.

This time their was more controversy as Darius Heravi scuffed a shot at the edge of the box that hit Lewis Ackerman in front of the 'keeper. Ackerman had the good touch to turn and scoop the ball goalwards. But just when it seemed the Horley number one had it in his hands the ball seemed to just bobble into the net to double the Moles lead.

Any slight chance that Horley felt they had at half time was extinguished in the 49th minute when just after Ackerman fired one over he finished one to double his personal tally in the game and giving the Moles an unassailable 3-0 lead.

The Moles were starting to play the fast flowing football that the fans have been used to this season and Ashley Lodge was at the heart of a lot of Moleseys good play providing for both James McShane and Darius Heravi although neither were able to hit the target.

Molesey completed the scoring in the 66th minute when an Ashley Lodge freekick was headed back across goal by Lewis Ackerman allowing Jordan McCartney to score a spsectacular diving header to complete the Moles rout.

The last third of the game was a tame affair with neither side stretching themselves too much.

Heravi and Graves were withdrawn in the 68th minute to be replaced by Arnold Tawonezvi and Doug Ford.

Unfortunately for the Moles Guildford matched their score in a 4-0 win of their own meaniing that the gap between the two clubs stays exactly the same.

What a few weeks coming up. The next month or so could decide the destination of the Combined Counties Premier championship with Molesey playing a lot of very winnable fixtures in the next few weeks whilst the current pace setters Guildfod have difficult trips to Egham, Badshot Lea and Chertsey.
