Carshalton Athletic caretaker manager Ian Hazel was delighted with his young stars after a 3-0 win over Heybridge Swifts in the FA Trophy.
A double from young striker Danny Mills and a Harry Harding strike on Saturday was enough for Carshalton to register their first win in three games.
Hazel said: "It was nice to get a win and I thought the boys played very well.
"What was even more pleasing for the club is that there were five boys from our academy in the squad who helped plug the gaps left by the injured senior players, and this bodes well for the future.
"I hope everyone keeps their support for the team going and hopefully three league points will follow quickly.”
Mills’ first came in the 12th minute after a fine move between Tommy Bradford and Harry Harding played him in and a thumping effort gave Nick Eyre no chance in the Swifts goal.
Swifts had a penalty appeal turned down before Harding stroked home the second from 17 yards.
The Robins backline was firm throughout but keeper Nick Hamann had to be alert to pull off two fine saves on the hour mark, and then Mills made Swifts pay for not taking either chance.
Tom Bird raced onto a long Carshalton ball down the left, cut into the box and teed up Mills, who side-footed home confidently and sent the Colston Avenue fans home happy.
Carshalton Athletic’s next match is a Ryman Premier Division clash against Bognor Regis Town October 9.
