Carshalton Athletic boss Ian Hazel insists they will not take Whitstable Town for granted in this weekend’s FA Trophy clash at Colston Avenue.

The Oystermen are unbeaten in four games, although they are struggling at the wrong end of Ryman Division One South.

Hazel said: “We have a youthful squad, but I cannot question their effort or commitment.

“Whitstable have won some games lately and will be up for this, so we have no room for complacency.”

Carshalton made it into the quarter-final draw of the Trophy in 2012 before being knocked out by eventual finalists Newport County.

“I remember that run, and we beat Lincoln City 3-1 along the way,” Hazel said.

“I’ve told the lads I expect us to get into the first round proper and then who knows what.”

Carshalton have only lost two of their past seven games and Hazel has strengthened his squad since taking over last month, most notably with midfielder Lewis Taylor re-joining the Robins from Conference South side Whitehawk last week.

The match at Colston Avenue kicks off at 3pm.
